JODY GLENHAM

Mood Rock (Aug 2020) is the third full-length album from Vancouver musician Jody Glenham.

Often drawing comparisons to Mazzy Star and the more contemporary Sharon Van Etten, Glenham’s songs are ethereal and evocative with arrangements influenced by shoegaze and rock 'n roll.  Her lyrics have always been about travel, disappointment, and the unsubtle realities of contemporary life, but through the melancholic malaise, her recordings insist upon putting the needle back to the beginning for another hopeful listen.

A self-proclaimed “summer witch”, Glenham was appropriately born on a Friday the 13th, and although it wasn’t intentional, looking back at the completion of Mood Rock she realized there was a through line of mortality, as she explored the darker side of life and the lighter side of death. “I’m drawn to the juxtapositions found in life.” says Glenham. “Beauty isn’t in the pure blue or green but all the colour discovered in between. My songs can be quite sad when you listen closely, but then they go on to ask “So what are you going to do about it?”  They don’t let you off the hook. They need you to do something.”

Mood Rock was made in collaboration with producers Raymond Richards (Local Natives) and Louise Burns (Gold & Youth). Early singles “Friday Night Lights” and “War On This World” received spins on Spotify's New Music Friday Canada, Seattle’s public radio (KEXP) and CBC Music’s The Drive, Nightstream and Afterdark, and tracks from the album have been placed in TV series including Netflix’s The Order. “I called the album Mood Rock to help define the genre of music I make. It’s emotive and gentle at times but also explosive and loud with fuzz guitar and vocal harmonies.” says Glenham. “Sometimes, I sing at the top of my lungs. It’s emotional rock ‘n roll. It’s Mood Rock.”

An in-demand DJ, side musician, and most recently, radio host, Jody has been called an “MVP” of the local scene by the Vancouver Sun, and even had a shoe named after her by the infamous shoemaker John Fluevog (aptly named “The Glenham”.)  She is a go-to opener for promoters needing a local band with cachet, and has supported everyone from cosmic cowgirl Pearl Charles to indie veteran Dean Wareham, and performed with punk legends Slow. Glenham recently played two sold out shows at the H.R. McMillian Space Centre in Vancouver, BC and showcased with her backing band, The Dreamers, at SXSW in 2016. Her 2014 Dreamer EP charted on Earshots National Top 200 and her 2009 full length Focus Pull was named Best of Vancouver upon its release. Glenham has toured the world playing as a side musician for Louise Burns and recently recorded a three original song Christmas EP produced by Burns called “Melt” (December 2020).
